Ingredients For Watermelon Smoothie
The full recipe and ingredients are in the recipe card below this post.
- Frozen watermelon. Fresh or frozen (perfect for thick texture).
- Frozen mixed berries. Use what you have; frozen mixed berry packets work well.
- Plant-based Greek yogurt. Vanilla or berry-flavored yogurt can add extra sweetness and creaminess to your smoothie. However, these are hard to find, all plant-based. Just use vegan plain yogurt and add a dash of vanilla extract for flavor.
- Maple syrup. Or your preferred sweetener.
- Plant-based milk. Oat milk or unsweetened almond milk.
- Garnish. Fresh mint, watermelon, and berries.
How To Make Watermelon Smoothie
Add all the simple ingredients to the blender and pulse until smooth. This refreshing watermelon smoothie recipe makes two to three servings.
In the pictures below, you can see how the smoothie will look if you use all frozen ingredients (watermelon and berries), which is perfect for smoothie bowls!
If you want to sip on a refreshing smoothie, add more liquid and use just 1 type of frozen fruit/berries.

Recommended Equipment
- Blender
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Airtight food containers
Tips
- Always use ripe watermelon and fresh ingredients for the best flavor and texture. A ripe watermelon will sound hollow when tapped and has a sweet aroma.
- You definitely won’t need an entire watermelon for this smoothie recipe. One watermelon can hold as much as 32 cups. Most stores sell pieces of watermelon for convenience, but if you do buy an entire watermelon, use the rest of the flesh as a juicy snack during the week or freeze some for later use in more watermelon smoothies, fruity popsicles, or watermelon margaritas.
- Depending on the sweetness of watermelon, you can adjust sweetness by increasing the maple syrup or your preferred sweetener.
- While you could use fresh watermelon and mixed berries, the frozen fruit makes the smoothie thicker with a refreshing chill. If you use fresh fruit, add some ice cubes to help thicken the smoothie.
- Try adding a fresh or frozen banana to make your smoothie creamier and sweeter. Watermelon and banana taste great together, but the banana flavor will stand out.
- You can also add a dash of vanilla extract.
- For a super thick smoothie, freeze the watermelon cubes first, then add other ingredients to tweak the texture.
Tips & Tricks
What Goes Well With Watermelon?
Watermelon pairs well with many fruits, like strawberries, bananas, mango, and pineapple. The more frozen fruit you add, the thicker your smoothie will be.
My favorite combo is watermelon and strawberries – their flavors complement each other, letting the watermelon stand out more than other fruit pairings.
How To Cube And Freeze Watermelon For Smoothies
- To cube and freeze watermelon for smoothies (or any drink), start by cutting the watermelon into bite-sized cubes.
- Spread the cubes in a single layer on a baking sheet, making sure they don’t touch, and freeze them for a few hours until solid.
- Once frozen, transfer the cubes to a freezer-safe bag or container. This method keeps the watermelon from sticking together, making it easy to blend into smoothies or add to drinks later!

What Are The Health Benefits Of A Watermelon Smoothie?
Watermelon is my favorite fruit! This smoothie is super refreshing because watermelon is full of water and healthy nutrients.
Unlike store-bought watermelon juice, homemade smoothies don’t have added sugar, making them a healthier choice. Plus, this smoothie is packed with vitamin C and antioxidants to boost your immune system.
Freezing And Storing Instructions

- Sweetener. Use more or less to taste depending don’t he sweetness of fruit.

Watermelon Smoothie: FAQs
Watermelon pairs beautifully with various fruits, such as strawberries, frozen banana, tropical fruits like mango and pineapple, mixed berries, and peach.
The two-finger rule for watermelon is a simple way to check if it’s ripe. After cutting it open, measure the space between the rind and the flesh. The watermelon should be juicy and ripe if it’s about two fingers wide.
The secret to a good watermelon:
Look for a yellow spot (field spot) on the bottom where it rested on the ground. A dark yellow spot means it ripened in the sun.
Knock on it – a ripe watermelon should sound hollow.
Feel the weight – it should feel heavy for its size, indicating it’s full of water (and sweetness).
