13 High-Protein Vegan Snacks That Will Energize Your Day

The 3pm crash is almost never about being vegan. It’s about snacking on things that are basically sugar with a health label on the front.

Protein is what stops the crash. These are the thirteen snacks I actually keep in the house.
💪 High-Protein Vegan Snacks
Some of these you make, some you buy. I’ve split them that way on purpose because nobody is batch cooking on a Wednesday night.
Roughly in order of how often they’re in my bag.
🌱 1. Crunchy Chickpea Delights
Roasted chickpeas give you around 14g of protein a cup and they scratch the crisp packet itch better than anything else here.
Dry them properly before they go in the oven. Wet chickpeas steam instead of crisping, which is why most people’s first batch is chewy. If you can’t be bothered, BIENA chickpea snacks do the same job out of a bag.
Tip: they go soft in a sealed container. Leave the lid slightly loose and they stay crisp for days.
🌱 2. Edamame Pods
Edamame is about 17g of protein a cup, which puts it above almost everything else on this list. Frozen pods from the supermarket, or dry roasted edamame if you want something that lives in a drawer.
Three minutes in boiling water, sea salt, done. The podding is half the appeal, it slows you down.
Edamame is a complete protein, so it covers all nine essential amino acids on its own. Not many plants do.
🥜 3. Almond Butter And Apple Slices

This is my most eaten snack and the least interesting one to write about. Apple, almond butter, done.
The fat and protein in the nut butter are what stop the apple turning into a sugar spike on its own. Together they hold me for hours.
Tip: cinnamon on top. Sounds like a small thing, makes it taste like pudding.
🍫 4. Black Bean Brownies
Black beans in brownies sounds like a punishment and tastes like a brownie. They come out fudgier than flour versions, not drier.
Rinse the beans well and blend them completely smooth. Any texture left and people will guess.
I’ve served these to people who don’t like beans and said nothing. Nobody has ever noticed.
🥜 5. Chia Seed Pudding

Chia seeds soaked in plant milk set into a pudding overnight. Three parts liquid to one part seeds, or you’ll get soup.
Protein, omega-3s and a lot of fibre in one small jar. Cocoa and a little maple turns it into dessert.
Start with a basic version and change it from there. Making five at once in small glass jars is how I get through a week without thinking about it.
🥜 6. Pumpkin Seed Trail Mix
Shop bought trail mix is mostly raisins and one cashew. Making your own means it’s mostly seeds, which is where the protein is.
Pumpkin seeds bring protein, zinc and iron all at once, so I make them the base and add the rest around them.
Dark chocolate chips go in last and only if it’s cool, otherwise you get a mix welded together.
🥜 7. Peanut Butter Banana Bites
Banana slices with peanut butter between them, frozen. My most eaten snack that costs nothing.
Freeze them on a tray first, then bag them. Bag them straight away and you get one banana brick.
Frozen, they taste far more like ice cream than they have any right to.
🥗 8. Lentil Salad Cups
A cup of cooked lentils is around 18g of protein. This is the one I take to work.
Dress them while they’re still warm. Cold lentils don’t absorb anything and you end up with dressing pooled at the bottom.
Lemon and chopped peppers in there also help you absorb the iron, so it’s doing two jobs at once.
🥣 9. Spirulina Smoothie

I’ll be honest, spirulina tastes like a pond. But it’s around 4g of protein a tablespoon and it disappears if you hide it properly.
Start with half a teaspoon, not the spoonful the packet suggests. A scoop of vegan protein powder alongside it does more for the protein and less for the taste.
Pineapple or mango covers it better than banana does. Something sharp is what you want.
🍱 10. Tofu Jerky
Tofu jerky is the one on this list people are most surprised by. Chewy, salty, and about 10g of protein per serving. Press it hard first, and a tofu press is worth it if you make this more than twice.
Slice thin, marinate, then bake low and slow. High heat makes it brittle rather than chewy.
Tamari, maple, smoked paprika and garlic is the marinade I keep coming back to.
💪 11. Protein-packed Overnight Oats

Overnight oats take two minutes the night before. A scoop of protein powder takes them from about 8g to over 20g.
Chia seeds, fruit and a spoon of nut butter. The chia is what makes it thick rather than sloppy.
Make three jars at once on Sunday. That’s most of the week’s breakfasts sorted.
🥦 12. Quinoa Salad
Quinoa is a complete protein, which is rarer in plants than you’d think, and it holds up cold for days.
Black beans, sweetcorn, red onion and a lot of lime. Rinse the quinoa before cooking or it tastes faintly bitter.
It’s better on day two, which makes it one of the few salads worth making ahead.
🥦 13. Hummus With Veggie Sticks

Obvious, but it’s on the list because it’s the one I reach for without thinking.
Carrot, cucumber and pepper. Cut them at the start of the week and they get eaten. Leave them whole and they don’t.
If you want it more filling, stir extra tahini through the tub. For days you’ve got nothing prepped, a GoMacro bar lives in my bag as the backup.
✅ Conclusion: Snack Smart, Snack Happy
Thirteen snacks, and not one of them requires you to enjoy a raw carrot on its own.
Pick two to make on Sunday and two to keep in the cupboard. That combination is what actually stops the afternoon slump.
Tell me what’s in your snack drawer. I’m always looking to replace one of mine.
