Copenhagen has become one of Europe’s most exciting cities for plant-based food. From cozy brunch cafés to upscale fine dining and indulgent burger spots, you’ll find plenty of delicious options that make vegan travel feel easy and fun.

⭐ My Top Picks (If You Only Have Time For a Few)

  • ⭐ Bistro Lupa: Green Michelin Star, ranked #2 in Copenhagen, my top splurge pick
  • ⭐ Ark: the most memorable single meal I had, book ahead
  • ⭐ Kaf: for pastries, the vegan croissant is genuinely that good
  • ⭐ Zahida: best fine-dining value, with a dedicated vegan tasting menu
  • ⭐ Square Burgers: best casual bite, order the truffle vegan burger

Here are 25 of the best vegan restaurants in Copenhagen.

1. Ark

📍 Google Maps location

Ark was my favorite meal of the whole trip. It holds a Green Michelin Star, and honestly, it might be the best restaurant I’ve ever eaten at, vegan or not. If the seasonal tasting menu still has the sake-brined turnip or the crème fraîche ice cream with puffed barley, order it. Both are what I still think about. Book ahead, this one fills up fast.

2. Bistro Lupa

📍 Google Maps location

If I only had room for one splurge, this is where I’d send you. Bistro Lupa carries both a Green Michelin Star and a Bib Gourmand, and it’s currently ranked #2 out of over 2,600 restaurants in Copenhagen. My pick from the menu is the fried blue oyster mushrooms with tamarind ketchup. They run their own mushroom farm, so the produce is as fresh as it gets.

3. Beyla

📍 Google Maps location

I went for brunch, which is what Beyla is known for. My favorite dish was the Beyla Fried Mushrooms, regulars just call them BFM, along with the other mushroom-based small plates on the menu. The mushrooms come from the same team behind Ark, so the quality shows. It’s a relaxed, stylish room, good for a slower midday meal.

4. Kaf

📍 Google Maps location

This is my pastry stop. Kaf won Vegan Eating of the Year in 2017 and I get why: the almond pain au chocolat and the rhubarb pistachio pastry are both worth planning your morning around. The vegan croissant genuinely holds up against the non-vegan version I’ve had elsewhere. It’s laptop-free, so it stays a real cafe instead of a co-working space, and the outdoor seating on a quiet Norrebro street is a nice way to slow down.

5. Vital Foods

📍 Google Maps location

My go-to for a fast, healthy lunch between sightseeing. I’d order the Jackfruit Chipotle or the Smashed Chickpea Sandwich at Vital Foods again without thinking twice. Reasonably priced for Copenhagen, with large portions, and everything can be ordered to go if you’re short on time.

6. MADENITALY

📍 Google Maps location

Denmark’s first fully vegan Italian restaurant, and I mean it when I say the pizza at MADENITALY is some of the best I’ve had, vegan or not. The crust is thicker and more focaccia-like than a classic Neapolitan base, and it works in its favor. One thing to know: portions run small, so order more than you think you’ll need if you’re hungry.

7. VeVe

📍 Google Maps location

A heads-up before you go: VeVe was a well-regarded vegetarian Thai fine-dining spot from the Kiin Kiin team, but recent reports say it has shifted toward a standard Thai menu that now includes meat. If plant-based dining is the priority, call ahead and confirm what’s currently on the menu before booking a table here.

8. Urten

📍 Google Maps location

Update: Urten has permanently closed as of late 2025, according to its own Instagram. It was a small, much-loved vegan spot in the Latin Quarter with a three-course French and Nordic menu, and it’s a genuine loss for vegan dining in the city. I’m leaving the write-up here so you don’t go looking for it, but do not plan a visit around this one.

9. RizRaz

📍 Google Maps location

The easiest, cheapest option on this list. RizRaz has been serving an all-you-can-eat vegetarian buffet since 1989, and at 99 DKK I’d call it the best value buffet in the city. The lasagna, falafel, and hummus are what I’d go back for. Good option if you’re traveling with non-vegan friends, since every dish on the buffet is clearly marked.

10. GRØD

📍 Google Maps location

GRØD started as the world’s first porridge bar, and it’s still the move for a slow breakfast. Around 90% of the menu can be made vegan, the oats are cooked in oat milk by default, and you build your own bowl with a base plus three toppings for just 65 DKK. It really is comfort in a bowl.

11. Pow Vegan Pizza

📍 Google Maps location

Voted one of Copenhagen’s best pizzas, full stop, not just best vegan pizza. The Helsinki pie with asparagus at Pow Vegan Pizza is the one I recommend. It’s a small, no-frills spot with a handful of tables, so it works better as a casual stop than a sit-down dinner, but the Napoli-style crust and genuinely good vegan cheese are worth the trip.

12. Flavour Bastards

📍 Google Maps location

A bohemian Norrebro spot worth knowing about for the fennel gnocchi. That’s the dish I’d point you toward at Flavour Bastards. Worth noting the restaurant isn’t fully vegan or vegetarian anymore, so double-check which dishes are plant-based when you order.

13. La Tre Street Kitchen

📍 Google Maps location

Ask for the banh mi with fried oyster mushroom instead of the usual protein at La Tre Street Kitchen. It’s the dish I’d order, and it holds up well against the meat version. A small, casual spot that opened right before the pandemic and has built a loyal following since.

14. District Tonkin

📍 Google Maps location

I’d go to District Tonkin for the vegetarian pho, the curry-based broth is genuinely good. I found the vegan banh mi more hit or miss, so if you’re only choosing one dish here, make it the pho.

15. POPL Burger

📍 Google Maps location

From the team behind Noma, and the vegan burger at POPL Burger is not an afterthought. The patty is a two-day fermented quinoa mix developed in Noma’s own fermentation lab, and I’d call the spicy vegan version one of the best veggie burgers I’ve had anywhere. Good casual stop if you want a taste of Noma-level technique without the Noma price tag.

16. Square Burgers

📍 Google Maps location

Order the truffle vegan burger at Square Burgers. It’s a must-try, and I’d put it up there with the best vegan burgers I’ve had anywhere. It’s a food truck near the entrance to Christiania, so go in expecting casual, quick service rather than a sit-down meal.

17. Wokshop

📍 Google Maps location

Good for a fast, filling Thai meal at Wokshop. I’d recommend the tofu pad thai or the tofu curry, and there’s a full vegan tasting menu if you want to try more than one dish. Lunch specials at 95 DKK are a good deal if you’re timing your visit around midday.

18. Zahida

📍 Google Maps location

Currently ranked #6 out of over 2,500 restaurants in Copenhagen, and Zahida earns it. They run a dedicated vegan tasting menu alongside their regular one, with dishes like Mirch Tofu swapped in for the paneer version. I’d point you toward the apple pakora and the tarka dal. One of the better fine-dining values on this list.

19. Gaza Grill

📍 Google Maps location

About 90% of the menu at Gaza Grill is vegetarian or vegan, and the falafel is made fresh in-house daily with organic chickpeas. It’s the dish I’d mention first. My order: the falafel pita with tahini, kale, and pomegranate seeds.

20. Baka d’ Busk

📍 Google Maps location

One of the most memorable meals I had in the whole city, vegan or not. Baka d’ Busk has a funky, kitschy interior and a relaxed pace, so plan for a leisurely dinner rather than a quick bite. The asparagus and the seaweed salad were the standouts for me.

21. Bistro Verde

📍 Google Maps location

The vegan carbonara at Bistro Verde is the dish I’d point you toward, rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced. The menu rotates quarterly, so what you get will depend on when you visit, but the quality has stayed consistent every time I’ve been.

22. Café Feel Good

📍 Google Maps location

A cozy spot for brunch. I’d order the vegan pancakes with the golden latte (turmeric, pepper, coconut oil) at Cafe Feel Good, they go together well. Good option if you also need a gluten-free-friendly menu, it’s built to handle both dietary needs at once.

23. Vegan Junk Food Bar

📍 Google Maps location

Copenhagen has a genuinely strong vegan burger scene beyond just Vegan Junk Food Bar, and it’s worth knowing the wider field. GreenBurger, MAX Burger’s vegan options, and Souls Deli are all worth trying too if you want to burger-crawl rather than stop at just one spot.

24. Café Oha

📍 Google Maps location

The acai bowl at Cafe Oha is the most authentic I’ve had outside Brazil, and the avocado toast holds up too. Cafe Oha has a couple of locations around the city, so check which address you’re heading to before you go, hours vary by branch.

25. 42Raw

📍 Google Maps location

Best for a smoothie bowl or a raw dessert rather than a full sit-down meal. The cacao and date smoothie at 42RAW was my favorite. I found the cooked dishes more hit or miss (the burger bread ran a little dry), so lean toward the raw and blended menu here.

Tips For Your Vegan Food Adventure In Copenhagen

  • Always ask staff about ingredients since some “vegan” dishes may include honey or dairy.
  • Use HappyCow to find up-to-date vegan listings.
  • Don’t skip Copenhagen’s vegan bakeries for the best pastries and breads.
  • Stay open-minded, as some of the most memorable meals might come from partially vegan restaurants.

Final Thoughts

Whether you’re a dedicated plant-based traveler or just beginning to explore vegan food, Copenhagen makes it easy to eat well without compromise. From Michelin-starred tasting menus to humble street food, this city celebrates creativity, sustainability, and flavor in every bite.

Pack your appetite, curiosity, and maybe a notebook for all the new ideas you’ll bring home after tasting your way through these vegan gems in Denmark’s capital.

  1. Bistro Verde, winner of Copenhagens best vegan restaurant 2025, doesn’t have the options listed in this post but have pastas/burger/smørrebrød and so on. Also the only place open weekdays for lunch for example.
